Men's Soccer Plays Two-Game Slate in California

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha broke its scoreless streak last week with a goal at Drake, but the Mavericks fell 2-1. Malik Elmi netted his first career goal in the final minute of action vs. the Bulldogs. Still in search of their first win, the Mavericks take a trip to California for a two-game slate next week. Omaha will kick off the week at UC Irvine and wrap up the action a CSUN. All three teams are looking for their first wins on the year.

Quick Kicks
  • Omaha's scoreless streak was cracked last week at Drake when Malik Elmi netted a goal for the Mavericks in the 89th minute. It marked the first goal of 2021 fall action for Omaha and Elmi's first career goal. Stevie Sit sent a cross into the box for the assist. Elmi headed it in low right for the goal.

UC Irvine was tabbed third in the Big West Preseason poll prior to the season opener. The Anteaters did not play in the spring, but they finished the 2019 season 7-7-5 with a 4-2-1 finish in the league.
 
Anteaters to Watch
  • Juan Barragan-Manzo has UC Irvine's lone goal of the year and leads the team with two points. He has three shots and one on goal over three appearances.
  • Ryan Khedoo leads the Anteaters with six shots. He has one on goal. Khedoo has started all four matches and logged 258 minutes on the pitch.
  • Gordon Botterill has played every minute between the pipes for the Anteaters. He has a 1.49 goals against average, a .786 save percentage, and 22 saves on the year.
 
Scouting the CSUN Matadors
The Matadors are 0-3-0 overall this year. They've lost to San Diego State, Pacific, and Utah Valley. CSUN will play UCLA and Loyola Marymount prior to taking on the Mavericks. In 2019, the Matadors finished 8-8-3 overall with a 2-3-2 record in the Big West. They were tabbed fifth in the Big West preseason poll.

  • Edson Palos also adds a goal for CSUN. He has three shots with two on goal.
  • David Preys made two starts between the pipes. He has five saves and a 2.0 goals against average. Cooper Wenzel has the other start in goal. He has three saves and gave up five goals.
