OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks hosted the Summit League newcomers the St. Thomas Tommies Thursday night to open league action. Omaha cruised to a 3-0 sweep in the conference opener.
Sadie Limback and
Marriah Buss recorded double-figure kills leading the Mavericks to the win.
With the win, Omaha improves to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in league play.
How It Happened
- Omaha took the first set 25-16 over St. Thomas. A kill by Buss opened the match and sparked the Maverick dominance on the night. Omaha quickly made it a 10-5 game following a 4-0 run capped by kills from Buss and Rylee Marshall. Sami Clarkson, Buss, and Rachel Fairbanks strung together another four straight points to make the set 19-10 in Omaha's favor. Fairbanks and Clarkson then recorded back-to-back kills for the set win, 25-16.
- The Mavericks used a 7-0 run in the second set to take a 12-4 lead out of the gate. Shayla McCormick recorded three aces in the run, while Buss tallied two more kills. Marshall and Limback recorded two straight kills opening the lead to 16-7, while Buss and Marshall made it 19-8 with another pair of kills. Another 5-1 run ended the set. Lakyn Graves recorded the set point with a kill helping Omaha to a 25-11 set two win.
- The Mavericks capitalized on an early 8-2 run to edge the Tommies. All but one point in the run was a kill from Limback, McCormick, Graves, or Buss. Back-to-back kills from Limback sparked another 8-1 run for Omaha helping extend the lead to 20-9. Marshall, Graves, and McKenna Ruch all recorded kills in the stretch. Alexa Blase and Buss capped the match with the final kills. Omaha took set three 25-15 for a sweep.
Inside the Box
- Limback led Omaha with 14 kills. She hit .407 on the night. She tallied two block assists and six digs.
- Buss recorded a season-best 10 kills.
- Marshall hit .455 with six kills. She added five block assists to lead the match.
- Jaiden Centeno recorded a team-high 16 digs on the night, while Claire Mountjoy tallied 11.
- Clarkson finished with 44 of Omaha's 47 assists.
- The Mavericks dominated in every stat category. They led in points (59-23), kills (48-19), aces (4-1), blocks (7-3), assists (47-19), and digs (47-32).
