OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha is still in search of its first win of 2021 action after dropping two in the first week of play. The Mavericks fell in a pair of matches at Bradley and at home vs. Tulsa, both 1-0. Omaha heads to Drake for its second road trip of the season on Friday, Sept. 3. The Bulldogs fell in their opener at Milwaukee and will play Western Illinois and Omaha this week at home. The Mavericks and Bulldogs kickoff at 6 p.m.

Quick Kicks
  • In their first match of the season, the Mavericks fell shorthanded to the Braves, 0-1. Dominik Danis received a second yellow card in the 71st minute resulting in a red card forcing the Mavericks to play down a man the final 20 minutes. Seven seconds later, Bradley capitalized netting the game winner to down Omaha, 1-0.
  • Omaha opened the home slate Sunday night vs. Tulsa. The Hurricane scored on a shot off the crossbar to take a 1-0 lead into the second half. Ed Port and Hugo Kametani combined for three shots on goal in the second half, but Tulsa held on for the win.
  • The Mavericks were tabbed the Summit League preseason favorite with Hugo Kametani and Fitzroy Cummings being named players to watch earlier this week.
  • Omaha is coming off 7-3-1 overall finish last season. The Mavericks went 5-2-1 in league action and represented the Summit League in the NCAA Tournament. Omaha upset No. 23 UNC-Greensboro for the program's first NCAA Tournament win. Their run came to an end in the second round with a 1-0 overtime loss to Stanford.
  • The Mavericks return their entire starting lineup, including the Summit League Newcomer of the Year Hugo Kametani and the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Fitzroy Cummings.  
  • In addition to Kametani and Cummings, Omaha will see Ed Gordon, Stevie Siy, Mitch Hammer, Nil Ayats, Gonzalo Ledesma, Jeremy Pollard, and Connor Jokerst take their extra year of eligibility.
 
Scouting the Drake Bulldogs
The Bulldogs enter the week 0-1-0 after falling in their season opener at Milwaukee. Drake was tabbed third in the MVC Preseason Poll after finishing last season 5-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in league action. Drake returns 22 players from the spring season and added 12 new faces to the 2021 squad.
 
Bulldogs to Watch
  • Juan Louis tallied Drake's lone goal at Milwaukee in the season opener last week. He tallied three shots with two on goal. His goal was on a penalty kick.
  • Brandan Allen also took two shots for the Bulldogs at Milwaukee.
  • Between the pipes, Jared Brown logged a complete game at Milwaukee. He tallied three saves and allowed two goals.
 
Series History
Omaha leads the all-time series, 2-1-1. The last regular season meeting between the teams was in 2016. The Mavericks tool a 3-0 shutout win vs. the Bulldogs at Caniglia Field.
