Nachtigal, Yardley Lead Omaha at Woody Greeno Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. - Maya Nachtigal and Madeline Yardley led the Mavericks at the Woody Greeno Invite Saturday morning. It marked the second race for Omaha this season and they posted a seventh place team finish.

"This is the best showing as a group we've had at this meet in the time I've been at UNO," said head coach Cliff Cisar. "Our two through five were only separated by a mere 7.3 seconds. They trusted all of the work we have put in since Augustana to prepare to race like a true pack, and today they did just that. We came into today with some high goals and we just about achieved every single one of the. We got better and for that I am very proud."

Nachtigal placed 40th overall with a time of 18:37.3, while Yarldey finished 75th with a time of 19:26.1.

"For Maya, this was a showcase of all the work she has put in over the course of the last two years. Running nearly two minutes faster than she did at Woody Greeno in 2019. Her effort and outlook at each practice allows her to calmly approach these races with a clear focus and it shows. I'm extremely proud of her result today, but even more so because she knows it's just the start for her."

Dani Howard and Joanna Topham finished 82nd and 83rd, respectively. Howard posted a time of 19:29.1 while Topham finished at 19:29.2. Emily Robles was 12 seconds behind at 90th place.

Also racing for Omaha was Paige Blackford and Zoe Christenson.

"Thank-you to all the fans that made it out to watch. It was truly great to see so many people come out and support our team. From families, teammates, alumni, and administration, our group felt the love and it showed in their race performances. Omaha is such a special place, and the people are what make it so special."

The Mavericks return to action on Oct. 1. With a change in schedule, Omaha will participate at the Gans Creek Invitational hosted by Missouri.
