OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha volleyball hosted Weber State for its home opener. The Mavericks took the first, second, and fourth sets to take a 3-1 win over the Wildcats. Four players notched double-figure kills led by
Sadie Limback with 19.
With the win the Mavericks improve to 3-6 overall.
How It Happened
- Omaha used a series of runs to jump out to an early lead in set one. Marriah Buss kicked off the offensive attack with a kill for Omaha's first point. Shayla McCormick continued it with an ace followed by a Limback kill. WSU managed to tie it 3-3, but Omaha responded with a 7-1 run to take a 10-4 edge. The Wildcats tied it 12-12 with their own 7-1 run. Dani Nay recorded a kill to knot the set. Each team went on a 4-0 run to make the set 16-16 before Omaha started to pull away. Limback and Lakyn Graves recorded back-to-back kills sparking a 7-1 run to close the set. Omaha won 25-18.
- Rylee Marshall and Limback opened the second set with two straight kills for Omaha for a quick 2-0 lead. The Mavericks never gave up the lead for the remainder of the set. Back-to-back kills from Graves sparked a 7-2 run for Omaha to pull ahead. Sami Clarkson, Rachel Fairbanks, and Buss all tallied kills in the run. The Wildcats got within four points two more times before the match ended. Marshall and Graves clinched the win with two straight kills to end the set. Mavericks win 25-17.
- The Wildcats found their stride in the third set. Dani Nay recorded three kills in a 4-0 run for WSU to edge the Mavericks 10-5. Omaha the used an 8-0 run to take a 16-12 lead over WSU. Limback tallied four kills while Marshall added one in the stretch. The Wildcats tallied the next four points to knot the set 16-16. Sam Schiess and Nay recorded kills. An 8-1 run to end the set in favor of WSU forced a fourth set. Wildcats win, 25-20.
- The Mavericks jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead following kills from Limback and an ace from Jaiden Centeno. The Wildcats got within two five times as the set progressed, but the Mavericks always held an edge. Fairbanks tallied the match point with a kill to end set four, 25-22.
Inside the Box
- Clarkson finished with a double-double tallying 47 saves and 11 digs.
- Limback finished with a team-leading 19 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. She added two digs and five block assists.
- Buss added 12 kills, while Fairbanks recorded 11. Fairbanks added seven digs and two assists.
- Graves tallied 10 kills, two solo blocks, and four block assists.
- Marshall led the Mavericks with five block assists.
- McCormick notched two aces on the night and 20 digs.
- Claire Mountjoy led the Mavericks with 32 digs, while Centeno added 12.
