Mavericks Win First Match on Elmi Golden Goal

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Mavericks captured their first win of the season Sunday afternoon. Malik Elmi netted his second goal of the season and the game winner at the 97:31 mark to end the match.

With the win, Omaha improves to 1-3-1 overall.

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks wasted no time firing shots on goal Sunday with Luke Smith striking less than thirty seconds into the match. David Preys made his first save of five in the half. 
  • At the 11:04 mark, Mitch Hammer put another shot on target that would be saved. A minute later Hammer missed just high of the crossbar.
  • The Matadors recorded their lone shot on goal at the 24:13 mark that was saved by Jeremy Pollard. Omaha then took three straight shots on goal. Junior Noutoua, Hugo Kametani, and Neville Morgan all had shots saved before the half ended in a 0-0 tie.
  • Only one shot on goal was recorded in the second half. Inaki Aldao forced a CSUN save in the 75th minute of action. Neither team connected before the end of regulation forcing overtime.
  • Ethan Benham fired a shot wide a minute into the period for the Matadors for their only shot of the overtime.
  • Elmi connected on Omaha's only attempt at the 97:31 mark for his second goal of the season. Mitch Hammer set up for a corner kick and sent the ball into the box for Elmi to head into the net. Mavericks win 1-0.
