Trev Alberts Named Director of Athletics at Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Vice Chancellor for Athletics Trev Alberts has accepted the athletic director role at the University of Nebraska after 12 years leading Omaha Athletics.

"We all owe Trev a great debt of gratitude for all that he has done to lift our program to where it is today," said Senior Associate Athletic Director for Events & Facilities Mike Kemp. "From where we came in 2009, to where we are now, is a quantum leap and it is a result of the vision and tenacity that he had to lift us up from Division II to Division I. I wish him the best of luck in his endeavors in Lincoln, he will he deeply missed."

Alberts was named Director of Athletics on April 29, 2009 and was elevated to Vice Chancellor for Athletics in 2014. During his time at Omaha, Alberts focused on serving student-athletes and helping to elevate their experience as Mavericks.

During his tenure, the Mavericks added the men's golf and men's soccer programs in 2011 and later men's swimming & diving for 2021-22, the only men's program offered at the DI or DII level in the state.

Under his leadership, the facilities around Omaha Athletics received a major uplift. Alberts helped direct a private and public partnership that led to the opening of Baxter Arena in 2015. In 2021, Omaha opened Connie Claussen and Tal Anderson Fields at Maverick Park, a project that was 100 percent donor-funded, providing the first on-campus home for the baseball and softball programs in modern history.

Caniglia Field underwent renovations in 2012, making it one of the finest collegiate soccer facilities in the country, highlighted by a FIFA 2-star rated playing surface and one of the largest LED videoboards in a soccer-only college facility.

Success in the classroom was no stranger to Omaha Athletics under Alberts' leadership as well. In 2012, the donor-funded Hamilton Academic Excellence Room opened in Sapp Fieldhouse, providing all student-athletes with a dedicated facility to receive academic support. The all student-athlete cumulative grade-point average has been above a 3.3 for 18 consecutive semesters, including at least a 3.5 in the last three semesters.

Over his tenure, Alberts was instrumental in securing over $100 million of private and corporate funding into Omaha Athletics.

Alberts was a fixture at nearly every home athletic event during the past 12 years. During this time, the Mavericks had six teams and four student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Tournament, including hockey advancing to the Frozen Four in 2015 and men's soccer reaching the second round in Spring 2021.
