SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- For the first time since the 2013-14 season, the Omaha Athletic Department has been selected by its fellow institutions to claim the 2020-21 Summit League Sportsmanship Award.
The honor is given annually to the institution that is judged by its peers to be the best in the league in living up the ideals of sportsmanship. Areas for evaluation include student-athlete conduct, staff/administrator conduct, coaches' conduct and event management.
"I am so proud of the commitment our athletic department shows in its unwavering professionalism and sportsmanlike conduct at all levels," Vice Chancellor for Athletics
Trev Alberts said. "This year tested our staff, coaches and student-athletes on a daily basis, and they thrived through times of unprecedented adversity. The Summit League's Sportsmanship Award is a testament to the hard work of the remarkable group of people we have representing Omaha Athletics."
Southern Utah owns the league record with five Sportsmanship Awards, followed by Omaha, South
Dakota and Centenary with three apiece. Purdue Fort Wayne and South Dakota State each have earned a pair of awards, while
IUPUI, Kansas City and Valparaiso have claimed the honor once.
