KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
Hugo Kametani earns the Omaha men's soccer program's first All-American nod in program history Thursday afternoon. The junior forward was tabbed Third Team All-America by the United Soccer Coaches.
The All-America award joins a growing list of accolades for Kametani. He was previously named First Team All-West Region, Summit League Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-Summit, and All-Newcomer Team earlier this season.
Kametani led the Mavericks and the Summit League with 19 points and nine goals this season. He added an assist, 36 shots, 18 shots, on goal, and three games winners.
The Kashima, Japan native netted two goals in three different games this season for a career-high. Kametani scored back-to-back goals in Omaha's 3-0 win vs. Creighton. He put two more away vs. Western Illinois on March 6.
Kametani tallied another two vs. No. 23 UNC-Greensboro helping the Mavericks to their first NCAA Tournament win in program history. His two goals vs. the Spartans tied him for the single-season scoring record with three former Mavericks.
This year's All-Americans will be recognized as part of the United Soccer Coaches College Awards Ceremony, which will be made available to view online as a digital event beginning June 30.
