Mavericks Fall in Summit League Semifinal

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The fourth-seeded Omaha volleyball team suffered a 3-0 sweep (25-27, 20-25, 20-25) to No. 1 Denver in the Summit League Semifinal on Friday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
 
The Mavericks conclude the season with a 13-6 record while the top-seeded Pioneers move to 14-2.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Sadie Limback had a match-high 12 kills while Alexa Blase added six kills. Claire Mountjoy led Omaha with 18 digs, followed by 10 digs from Rachel Fairbanks. Sami Clarkson dished out 29 assists and Rylee Marshall had a team-high five blocks.
 
Leaders for Denver
Lydia Bartalo led Denver with 10 kills and 12 digs. Lorrin Poulter had nine kills and 15 assists, followed by eight kills apiece from Katarina Marinkovic and Tina Boe. Macy Carrabine posted a team-high 14 digs and notched six assists.
 
Team Stats
Omaha hit .134 to Denver's .244. The Mavericks had 32 kills with 51 digs and five service aces while the Pioneers totaled 46 kills with 58 digs and six service aces. Denver edged Omaha in blocks, 7-6.
 
Inside the First Set
A kill by Fairbanks had Omaha out front 7-5 until a 7-1 run by the Pioneers gave Denver a 12-8 advantage. The Mavericks reeled off four consecutive points to tie it up at 12. Back-to-back aces by Blase and a DU error gave Omaha a 19-16 lead before the Pioneers tied the set back up at 20. Fairbanks' kill gave the Mavericks a 25-24 lead until three consecutive Denver kills gave the Pioneers a 27-25 win.
 
Inside the Second Set
Denver held a slight 8-6 lead before slowly expanding the advantage over the Mavericks to 20-13. Two straight kills by Limback and back-to-back DU errors brought Omaha within three at 22-19, but two of the next three points went to Denver to stifle a late rally by the Mavericks. Denver clinched the second set with a kill to post a 25-20 victory.
 
Inside the Third Set
A pair of kills from Blase brought Omaha within 17-14 before Denver rattled off four straight points to take a 21-14 lead over the Mavericks. Omaha climbed back within four after a kill by Claire Leonard and two straight DU errors. Facing a 24-17 deficit, the Mavericks scored three straight points on two more Denver errors and a kill by Limback before the Pioneers clinched the sweep on a Maverick service error.
