WICHITA, Kan. – The Omaha track & field team's multi-event athletes kicked off the first day of competition in the heptathlon at the KT Woodman Multis at Wichita State on Wednesday.

It's the first time senior Jaycee Schettler and freshmen Roxy Denton, Kylie Johnson and Taylor Ramaekers have competed in the event this season.

Denton leads the Mavericks and is seventh in the field of 19 athletes with a score of 2592 through four events.  Johnson is 10th with 2462 points, Ramaekers is 14th with 2337 and Schettler is 15th with 2299.  

In the 100 meter hurdles, Denton led the Mavericks in a time of 15.39, her fastest all-conditions time in the event.  Johnson was right behind in sixth, clocking a time of 15.62.  Ramaekers ran 13th in a time of 16.60, a wind-legal lifetime best, while Schettler put up a time of 18.79, good for 18th.

In the high jump, Ramaekers was UNO's top finisher, tying for seventh with a mark of 4-11 ½.  Denton tied for 11th, posting her best jump in a Maverick uniform at 4-10 ¼.  Schettler tied for 14th with a leap of 4-07 ¾, and Johnson tied for 16th at 4-06 ¾.

Schettler won the shot put with a throw of 37-07 ¼, Denton was seventh at 31-10 ¾ while Johnson set a lifetime best with a mark of 31-02 ½, good for eighth.  Ramaekers finished 13th with a throw of 29-03 ¼.

In a windy final event, the 200 meters, Schettler had a time of 26.78 to put her fifth.  Johnson was ninth in 27.13, Denton took 11th at 27.25 and Ramaekers was 15th at 28.35.  The freshmen all put up their fastest all-conditions times in the event.

The final three events of the heptathlon will be held on Thursday beginning at 11:45 a.m. at Cessna Stadium.
