Mavericks, Golden Eagles Play to 1-1 Draw

TULSA, Okla. - After a scoreless first half, both the Mavericks and Golden Eagles netted a goal in the second to force overtime. Neither team could convert through the two overtimes and played to their first draw of the year. Hugo Kametani scored Omaha's lone goal of the match.

With the draw, Omaha is 5-2-1 (4-2-1) on the year.

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks were held without a shot in the first half, while the Eagles managed three on goal to force an active Jeremy Pollard between the pipes. Pollard stopped each one to keep the match knotted 0-0 at the break.
  • Less than five minutes into the second half, Oral Roberts ended the scoreless streak putting a goal on the board. Eugene Quaynor tallied the goal on an assist from Juan Arias.
  • Following the goal, Omaha forced four shots on goal before Hugo Kametani netted the equalizer. Ed Port sent a pass down the center of the field from the centerline. Kametani gave chase beating two defenders. He sent a low shot to the right knotting the game 1-1 as it found the back of the net.
  • Each team managed a shot in the first overtime period. Tevin Rochester forced on goal for the Mavericks, while Quaynor took ORU's. The match remained tied 1-1 forcing a second OT. ORU tallied an off target shot in the second overtime, but the teams would finish tied at 1-1 for their first draws of the season.

Coach Speak
"I'm incredibly proud of our team. Battling back on the road at a very tough place to play was incredible to witness," said head coach Bob Warming. "All 20 players were totally into the second half and overtime effort. It had the feel of a sweet 16 or elite eight NCAA tournament game. Two teams with some very good players trying to find a moment to break through defenses. We empties the tank today and it is a fantastic part of the process to see in this team."
