OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team had its six-match win streak snapped on Saturday after suffering a 3-0 sweep (24-26, 21-25, 23-25) vs. South Dakota State at Baxter Arena.
The loss drops the Mavericks to 9-5 (8-4 Summit League) while the Jackrabbits improve to 3-10 (3-9).
Leaders for Omaha
Anna Blaschko led the Mavericks with 12 kills, followed by 10 kills from
Sadie Limback and
Rachel Fairbanks. Fairbanks also had 19 digs to collect the double-double.
Leaders for South Dakota State
Crystal posted a team-high 13 kills and 17 digs while Akeela Jefferson tallied 11 kills and nine digs. Tatum Pickar totaled a match-high 25 digs.
Inside the First Set
Omaha and SDSU exchanged points to a tie at 12 until the Jackrabbits expanded the lead to 20-16. The Mavericks fought back to tie the set at 21 and then at 24 again. A service error and setting error by the Mavericks handed the Jackrabbits a 26-24 first-set win.
Inside the Second Set
A 4-0 run gave the Jackrabbits a 16-11 lead over Omaha before building the lead to 20-13 off a service ace. Back-to-back kills by
Sami Clarkson and
McKenna Ruch brought the Mavericks within 23-21 before SDSU reeled off two straight points to clinch the second set.
Inside the Third Set
Four straight SDSU errors led the Mavericks to a 12-6 lead midway through the set. Facing a five-point deficit, the Jackrabbits rallied back to tie the set at 20 before a kill by Burk locked the third set at 23. Back-to-back service aces gave the Jackrabbits the sweep over the Mavericks with a 25-23 third-set victory.

The Mavericks travel to Fargo, N.D., for a weekend series with North Dakota State on Friday and Saturday, March 12-13.
