Jackrabbits Topple Mavericks in Saturday Meet

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha swimming and diving team competed in one final Summit League meet of the season Saturday night. South Dakota State swept first place finishes as the Mavericks fell, 231-65.

Omaha falls to 3-6 on the year.

Despite the loss to the Jackrabbits, the Mavericks picked up 11 second place finishes Saturday afternoon. Two of those second place finishes came in both relay events. In the 200-yard Medley Relay, Megan Latta, Caroline Gardner, Riana Scott, and Morgan Baker put a time of 1:54.44 on the board in the day's first event.

In the final event, Baker, Parker Hagemann, Maddie Mather, and Annie Leinart paced the Mavericks to a second place finish in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.

Leinart picked up two individual second place finishes in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:01.46) and the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:25.76).

The Mavericks also had swimmer finish second in the 100-yard Backstroke, 500-yard Freestyle, 100-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Backstroke, 500-yard Freestyle, 100-yard Butterfly, and the 100-yard IM.

The Jackrabbits swept the top-three finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. Natalie Wright finished fourth in both events with scores of 196.20 and 177.15, respectively.

"Today was a disappointing showing for us," said head coach Todd Samland. "I did not have the team prepared for an extremely talented SDSU squad. We have got to be ready to perform back-to-back days of competition because that is what's needed at the conference championships. I sincerely believe we have the right people to get the job done and be competitive, but today just wasn't our day.

The Mavericks return to action Saturday, March 20 with a meet at UNI.
