Mavericks Edged By Coyotes, 135-108

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha swimming and diving team dropped a close meeting with South Dakota Friday night, 135-108. The Mavericks saw first place finishes in six of the 13 events, including both dives. 

Omaha falls to 3-5 on the year, and 0-3 in Summit League action. 
 
"I'm happy with the improvements I saw tonight," said head coach Todd Samland. "Each time we get back in the pool we are a getting closer to the results we are hoping for. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, building upon tonight's improvements, and getting  our first Summit League win." 
 
Friday's meet kicked off with the 200-yard medley relay with the Mavericks clinching the first-place finish. Megan Latta, Caroline Gardner, Morgan Baker, and Parker Hagemann swam a time of 1:50.45 to bring in 11 points for Omaha. 
 
Baker picked up the Mavericks' next first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. She swam a time of 24.99 for nine points. Riana Scott followed suit in the next event posting a time of 4:41.23 in the 400-yard IM and placed first. She also tallied another nine points in the Mavericks' favor. 
 
Kady Eller brought in a score of 238.57 in the three-meter diving event to record nine points, while Darby Drake earned fourth place with a score of 207.45. Drake then earned first place in the one-meter event with a score of 251.99. 
 
Gardner added one more first place finish for the Mavericks with a time of 1:06.38 in the 100-yard backstroke.  
 
Omaha tallied five second place finishes and five third places finishes, but the Mavericks fall to South Dakota, 138-105. 
 
The Mavericks will be back in action with a road meet Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at South Dakota State.
