OMAHA, Neb. – Junior
Sadie Limback became the second Maverick in the Division I era to reach 1,000 career kills in Omaha's 3-1 win (21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-18) vs. Oral Roberts on Friday night at Baxter Arena.
The Mavericks improve to 12-5 (11-4 Summit League) on the season while the Golden Eagles drop to 3-14 (3-12).
Leaders For Omaha
Limback led the Mavericks, tying her career-high for the third time this season with 25 kills while hitting .512 in the match.
Rachel Fairbanks had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs and
Anna Blaschko hit .364 with 11 kills.
Alexa Blase chipped in six kills and six service aces while
Sami Clarkson had a double-double with 51 assists and 13 digs.
Claire Mountjoy had a match-high 32 digs while
Jordan Stalpes tallied 10 digs.
Leaders for Oral Roberts
Jaxie Wakley and Victoria Mayes paced the Golden Eagles with 14 and 12 kills apiece. Sylvia Lawson had 18 assists while Bryanne Soares tallied 17 assists and Aixa Vigil posted a team-high 21 digs.
Team Stats
Omaha hit .263 to ORU's .160. The Mavericks posted 61 kills, 79 digs and had nine service aces. Omaha edged the Golden Eagles in blocks, 7-6. Oral Roberts garnered 43 kills, 67 digs and totaled four service aces.
Inside the First Set
Oral Roberts scored three consecutive points after being tied up at four and never gave the lead back to the Mavericks in the first set. Omaha trailed by as many as six before battling back with 23-20 on an ORU attack error. Oral Roberts answered with the 24
th point before a kill by Limback got Omaha within three again until ORU sealed the first set with a kill.
Inside the Second Set
A pair of Limback kills and three straight aces by Blase had the Mavericks out to a 5-1 lead in a hurry. Oral Roberts climbed back to take a 13-21 lead and later held a 20-18 advantage over Omaha. Locked in a tie at 23, Blaschko and Limback paired up to collect back-to-back kills and lead Omaha to a 25-23 win in the set.
Inside the Third Set
Four kills by Limback, a kill from Blase and a pair of ORU error led to a quick 7-2 advantage for Omaha. The Mavericks didn't let up, leading by as many as nine on four different occasions in the third set.
Kenedy Schaecher's ace gave Omaha a 21-12 lead before the Golden Eagles rallied off three straight points. An ORU service error and a pair of attack errors led Omaha to a 25-16 victory in the third set.
Inside the Fourth Set
Omaha scored the first three points in the set before Oral Roberts fought back to tie it up at eight. The Mavericks responded with an 11-3 run to blow the set open at 19-12. Omaha and the Golden Eagles exchanged points over the next rallies, only getting within six at 22-16 on a Maverick service error. Limback sealed the 3-1 victory for the Mavericks by slamming home her career-high 25
th kill on the night.
