VERMILLION, S.D. – The swimming and diving team opened conference action Saturday afternoon with a meet at South Dakota. The Coyotes picked up a 146-96 win in the relay dual.
"This has finally been a really good week of training for us, and I saw some good swims from it," said Samland. "It feels like we are starting to gain some momentum and training with a growth mindset."
Saturday's meet opened with a pair of diving events.
Reece Cooper finished in second place in both the three-meter and one-meter events with scores of 213.15 and 230.90, respectively.
Omaha finished first in four events during the meet. The Mavericks picked up nine points in the 3x100 butterfly relay.
Bethany Gatlin,
Alyssa Parsons, and
Riana Scott put together a time of 2:48.04.
The Mavericks won back-to-back events later in the meet. First, Omaha took the 3x50 backstroke relay to earn another nine points.
Megan Latta, Caroline Dye, and
Mallory Dickey posted a time of 1:34.50 to win the event by four-tenths of a second. The team also took the 3x50 breaststroke.
Caroline Gardner,
Annie Leinart, and
Jillian Altmaier posted a time of 1:43.83.
To wrap up the meet, Omaha finished first and second in the 400 freestyle relay. Gatlin,
Parker Hagemann, Parsons, and
Maddie Mather secured first place by more than 12 seconds with a time of 4:10.19.
The Mavericks recorded 11 second place finishes and one third place finish over the meet's 15 events.
"South Dakota won because they are a very experienced team with lots of depth, but I was happy to see our team in the hunt for many of the races."
Omaha returns to action Feb. 13 with a home meet. The Mavericks will host South Dakota State at 1 p.m. for a conference match-up at H&K Pool.
