Basketball Returns To Baxter This Weekend

Story Links

OMAHA, Neb. – When you can count the number of home games the Omaha men and women have had on one hand, it's clearly not a typical year.  But this weekend, Maverick basketball fans will have more than their share of hardwood action.

The Omaha men welcome Western Illinois for a two-game series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6.  Both games begin at 7 p.m.  The women will host the Leathernecks on Saturday and Sunday with both games beginning at 3 p.m.

Tickets for all four games are available at Ticketmaster.com, BaxterArena.com and through the Maverick app.  There will be no walk-up sales at the Baxter Arena box office to eliminate crowds in the arena lobby.

Among the story lines for this weekend's games:

Omaha men
  • Omaha has won 10 of the last 11 meetings with Western Illinois, including eight straight.
  • La'Mel Robinson is coming off a breakout weekend at South Dakota where he was Omaha's leading scorer in back-to-back games. The redshirt freshman averaged 17.0 points per game and finished the series with a bang, scoring a career-high 23 points.
  • Nick Ferrarini also had a standout effort in the finale, posting a career-high 15 points in 16 minutes of work off the bench. Ferrarini ignited for 13 points in the final four minutes.
