OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team posted its first three-set victory of the season, sweeping North Dakota (25-15-, 26-24, 25-22) on Sunday afternoon at Baxter Arena.
The Mavericks jump to 5-4 (4-3 Summit League) on the season while the Fighting Hawks fall to 2-5 (2-3).
Leaders for Omaha
Sadie Limback tallied a match-high 13 kills, followed by
Anna Blaschko with 12 kills on a .474 hitting performance.
Rylee Marshall hit .600 in the match and had 10 kills for the Mavericks.
Sami Clarkson fell one dig short of a double-double with 42 assists and nine digs.
Claire Mountjoy posted a team-high 13 digs while
Rachel Fairbanks added 10 digs.
Leaders for North Dakota
Taylor Riedl paced the Fighting Hawk attack with eight kills. Darian Chwialowski recorded 13 digs to lead the UND defense while Peyton Sewell set up the UND offense with 22 assists.
Team Stats
The Mavericks hit .270 to North Dakota's .190. Omaha totaled 52 kills, 43 digs and six service aces in the victory. UND posted 25 kills with 27 digs and three service aces.
Inside the First Set
A kill by Marshall and an ace from Fairbanks had the Mavericks out ahead 10-5 in the set, prompting a UND timeout. The Fighting Hawks got within 11-8 on a kill by Sara Antic and an Omaha error. Kills from Blaschko and
Alexa Blase and a UND error stretched the Omaha lead to 17-10 before the Mavericks cruised to a 25-15 victory in the opening set.
Inside the Second Set
All locked in a tie at 17, the Mavericks reeled off three straight kill from Marshall, Blaschko and Clarkson to grab a crucial 20-17 advantage. UND climbed back to snag a 23-22 lead late in the set before back-to-back Fighting Hawk errors gave Omaha a set point at 24-23. Tied up at 24, Blaschko slammed home a kill and an attack error by UND sealed the second-set win for the Mavericks.
Inside the Third Set
A back-and-forth start led to a 4-4 tie before the Mavericks erupted for a 9-2 run to take a 13-6 advantage. North Dakota responded with a 12-5 run of their own to tie the set back up at 18. Back-to-back kills by Marshall and Blase handed Omaha a 20-18 lead.
Omaha scored the final three points after North Dakota locked the set up in a tie at 22. Limback's kill led to the Mavericks getting the lead back before Blaschko and Limback converted back-to-back kills to clinch the sweep over North Dakota on Sunday afternoon.
