BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha track & field team added to its list of lifetime bests at the SDSU Last Chance at South Dakota State. It was the Mavericks' last meet before the Summit League Indoor Championship.
"Today was a good day to be a Maverick," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "We had a lot of lifetime bests but more importantly, we got better as a team. While we always want to see PRs, we always need to make sure the first goal is to be better than we were yesterday and we saw that today in our team."
In the distance events,
Joanna Topham ran an 11-second lifetime best in the 3,000 meters, finishing in a time of 10:38.99, good for fifth.
Maya Nachtigal finished in ninth, running a 10-second lifetime best time of 10:48.56.
In the sprints,
Jaycee Schettler, running the 400 meters for the first time, ran a time of 59.27 which put her sixth. It was UNO's best time in the event this season.
Scarlett Hill bested her lifetime best in the same event, running a time of 1:00.58 which put her seventh.
Vanessa Gunderson was 10th in a lifetime best time of 1:02.31.
Hill also took seventh in the 60 meters in a time of 7.91, just .01 off her lifetime best.
Kylie Johnson reset her lifetime best and the team's top time in the 60 meter hurdles, running a time of 9.33 in the prelims.
In the 200 meters,
Carrie Simonson took fourth in a time of 25.70, tying her season best.
Freshman
Taylor Sporrer set a team season-best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.34, a lifetime best.
Emily Robles was right behind in 2:25.88, another lifetime best and the second-best mark by a Maverick this season.
In the field events,
Sheridan Rodriguez had a team season-best in the high jump with a leap of 5-05, good for fourth.
Kaitlin Hellbusch was part of a four-way tie for fifth with a lifetime best mark of 5-03.
In the shot put,
Lucy Turner threw a college best mark of 35-05.
The Summit League Indoor Championships will be held at SDSU on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27-28.
