Four School Records Broken at Rochester Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The first two days of the Rochester Invite are in the books for Omaha Swimming & Diving. The Maverick women sit in second place and the men in first with one more day of competition on Sunday. Over the first two days, the Maverick women posted four school records.
 
"We've had two great days of swimming," said head coach Todd Samland. "So many of our athletes are showing their competitive side, and it is so fun to watch them. We are starting to see our strengths and areas we can approve on for the second half of the season. I am excited to see how we compete in the final day Sunday."
 
The new program records were set in the 200 medley relay, the 500 free, the 200 free, and the 400 medley relay.
 
Day One Highlights
In the first day of action, the 200 medley relay team of Gracie Streblow, Caroline Gardner, Annika Harthoorn, and Payton Easley opened the invitational with a first-place finish and time of 1:41.97. It also marked a new program record for Omaha. The previous record was set in 2018 with a time of 1:43.42.
 
The men followed suit with a first-place nod from Kody Hollingsworth, Daniel Young, Elijah Clements, and Owen Hoak. They swam a time of 1:29.24 led by Hoak in the final stretch with a time of 20.62.
 
Hailey Matthews and Carina Monroe then earned first and third-place finishes, respectively, in the 500 free event. Matthews' time of 4:58.21 set a new program record surpassing the previous record of 4:58.75 set in 2019.
 
Young earned an individual first-place finish in the 200 IM. He swam a time of 1:49.02. Isaac Fletcher trailed Young in third with a time of 1:56.66, while Caleb Miller placed fourth with a time of 1:54.76.
 
Easley grabbed second place in the 50 free swimming 23.79. She was just two-tenths of a second behind the event's leader. On the men's side, Hollingsworth and Hoak finished in the top-four. Hollingsworth swam 20.41 for second, while Hoak was fourth with a time of 21.15.
 
Harthoorn swam 55.57 in the 100 fly for the women's top placer. Clements and Hollingsworth finished back-to-back in the men's race. Clements swam a time of 48.94, while Hollingsworth was less than a second behind at 49.32.
 
Annie Leinart, Harthoorn, Monroe, and Morgan Baker found success in the 800 free relay. They posted a time of 7:48.01 good enough for fourth place. The Maverick men took the top spot with a time of 6:46.19. Young, Miller, Luke Asbury, and Fletcher led the team to a first-place finish.
 
Day Two Highlights
Saturday's action opened with the 200 free relay. The Maverick women cruised to a second-place finish. Easley, Streblow, Parker Hagemann, and Olivia Wassink swam a time of 1:36.24. The team of Young, Logan Kempf, Hoak, and Hollingsworth earned first on the men's side. They posted a time of 1:21.86.
 
Payton Krug and Monroe placed in the top-10 in the 400 IM. Krug swam 4:39.01 for sixth place, while Monroe was seventh with a time of 4:40.16. Kyle Peterson was tabbed fourth for the men with a time of 4:09.68. Drake Nielsen and Alex Becker also placed in the top-10.
 
Matthews shattered a 20-year program record in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.33. The previous record was set in 2002 by Jamie Haferbier. Easley added a fourth-place finish in the event with a time of 1:54.14.
 
Fletcher, Miller, and Clements picked up second, third, and fourth place on the men's side, respectively. Fletcher posted a time of 1:40.82, Miller a time of 1:41.88, and Clements a time of 1:42.15.
 
Gardner earned her first individual top-five placement in the 100 breast. She swam a time of 1:04.36. Leinart also finished sixth in the event. Young led the way for the Maverick men with a time of 53.90 for first. Chas Nolte entered his name in the mix with a seventh-place finish and time of 57.47.
 
Matthews tallied another finish at the top in the 100 back. She swam a time of 56.15, while Harthoorn's time of 56.77 was good enough for third. Hollingsworth and Asbury placed in the top-three. In first, Hollingsworth swam a time of 48.95. Asbury's time of 51.11 was third.
 
Omaha's second record of the day came in the 400 medley relay. Matthews, Gardner, Harthoorn, and Easley swam a time of 3:46.86. The previous record was set in 2018 with a time of 3:46.98.
 
The Omaha men earned first and fourth place in the 400 medley relay. Hollingsworth, Young, Clements, and Fletcher earned first with a time of 3:17.33, while Asbury, Nolte, Pharis Musleh, and Miller were fourth with a time of 3:26.06
