OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha women's swimming and diving hosted Nebraska Friday night in its first meet back at H&K Pool since last season. The Huskers took a 197-103 win in the dual.
"The warrior spirit was very bright tonight, and I think we see possibilities of this team in the pool and on the boards," said head coach
Todd Samland. "I was very impressed with our divers. They have only been on our boards one evening and they were very competitive. 'Find a way to contribute' is a philosophy, and I believe everyone on this team did that tonight. I was very happy to see our character come through in this meet and can't wait to get back in the pool next week with UNI."
The Mavericks opened the meet taking first in the 200-medley relay.
Hailey Matthews,
Caroline Gardner,
Annika Harthoorn, and
Payton Easley swam a time of 1:45.40 for the top spot.
Omaha then took fourth, fifth, and sixth place in the 1000-free.
Carina Monroe led the way with a time of 10:59.01.
Abby Kohl and
Maddie Mather finished in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Morgan Baker led the Mavericks in the 200-free. She swam a time of 2:01.08 good enough for fourth place, while
Payton Easley finished right behind her with a time of 2:01.39.
Annika Harthoorn earned a second-place finish in the 50-back with a time of 27.30. Oliva Theil swam a time of 28.92 for fifth.
In the 50-breast, Gardner picked up the first individual first place finish. She swam a time of 29.72.
Jillian Altmaier swam a 31.50 time for fourth, while
Annie Leinart placed fifth.
Matthews,
Parker Hagemann, and
Payton Krug finished in third, fourth, and fifth in the 100-fly. Matthews's time of 57.71 earned third.
Easley and
Abigail Mitchell finished in the top-three in the 50-free. Easley placed second with a time of 34.72, while Mitchell's time of 25.10 placed third. Wassink placed fifth with a time of 25.35.
Matthews earned another second-place finish with a time of 52.96 in the 100-free. Hagemann swam a time of 55.07 for fourth, and Baker placed fifth with a time of 55.45.
Theil was Omaha's highest finisher in the 100-back with a time of 1:00.18 for third place. Mitchell then placed fourth with a time of 1:00.96.
In the 100-breast, Gardner led the Mavericks with a time of 1:05.52 for second place. Leinart placed fourth with a time of 1:08.52.
Monroe earned another fourth-place finish in the 500-free. She swam a time of 5:17.81. Trojan and Mather placed behind her in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Harthoorn was tabbed third in the 50-fly with a time of 26.04, while Leinart earned another third place-finish in the 200-IM swimming a time of 2:12.92.
A team of Easley, Matthews, Gardner, and Wassink earned first in the 400-free relay. They swam a time of 3:34.28 to end the swimming events.
In the diving events,
Darby Drake paved the way for the Mavericks. She placed second in the 1-meter dives with a score of 2:63.63. She then earned third with a score of 217.35 in the 3-meter event.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, Dec. 17. The women host UNI at 1 p.m. in H&K Pool.
