Omaha Set for Rivalry Match at Denver

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha heads to Denver this weekend for its final regular season road match of 2021. It marks the first meeting between the Summit League rivals since the fall of 2019 following a combination of five postponements and cancellations last spring. Denver remains undefeated in league action with a 4-0-0 record heading into the weekend. Omaha sits in fourth place in the league standings with a 2-2-0 conference record.

Quick Kicks
  • Omaha dropped two matches last week and look to rebound this weekend before heading into the final week of regular season play. San Francisco took a 1-0 win last Tuesday before the Mavericks dropped a 1-0 match at St. Thomas.
  • Hugo Kametani leads the Mavericks and is second in the league with 2.62 shots per game. In league play, he averages 3.75 shots per game and 2.25 shots on goal per game which also ranks second. The senior forward tallied four shots in both matches last week. He took a season-high six at Eastern Illinois earlier this season.
  • Malik Elmi trails Kametani with 14 shots this season. The duo is tied with two goals this season to lead the Mavericks.
  • Mitch Hammer is third on the team this season with 11 shots, while Ed Port also adds double-figure attempts with 10 shots. 
  • As a team, Omaha is tied first with a153 shots on the season for an average of 11.77 per game. The Mavericks are tied first with 69 shots on target.
  • Nathanael Sallah sits third in the league with a .970 goals against average. He notched a season-high four saves in back-to-back matches at Indiana and Eastern Illinois. The freshman goalkeeper has 15 saves on the year.

Scouting the Denver Pioneers
The Pioneers are 9-2-2 overall and remain undefeated in league play with a 4-0-0 record. The first loss of the season for Denver was at the hands of Oregon State (3-0). The Pioneers followed the loss with their first draw at SMU, 1-1. Denver dropped their second of the season at Gonzaga and tied with Stanford back on Oct. 16. The Pioneers picked up a 1-0 win vs. Oral Roberts last weekend and head into Saturday looking to remain perfect in league play.

Pioneers to Watch
  • Denver's Lukas Fisher sits second in the league with four goals this season. He has 10 points with two assists. Fisher scored a season-high two goals at Eastern Illinois on Oct. 2.
  • Stefan DeLeone adds three goals and three assists for the Pioneers. He leads the team with 26 shots and 16 shots on goal. The senior midfielder put on a four-point performance at St. Thomas with a goal and two assists.
  • Will DeSantis has made 11 starts in goal logging over 1,000 minutes. He has a .78 goals against average and 27 saves. 

Series History
Denver leads the all-time series 8-1-2. The Mavericks and Pioneers last met in the 2019 Summit League Championship match where Denver took a 1-0 win. Junior Noutoua and Andreas Hermansson were the only two current Mavericks to tally a shot.
