Omaha, Neb.- The Omaha golf teams return to action at home, hosting the Stampede at the Creek Monday and Tuesday, October 4-5. Both rounds are set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
The men's and women's teams will share the 27 holes of Golf at Indian Creek in Elkhorn. Joining them with both teams playing are Creighton, Northern Iowa, Saint Thomas, and Western Illinois. North Dakota is participating exclusively in the men's field and Drake, Nebraska (individuals only) and Weber State fill out the women's field.
The men's line up for this 54-hole event: senior Mathew Halvorson, junior Josh Peters, sophomore Carter Doose, freshman Christopher Atkinson, and sophomore Jacob Zerby. The Mavericks will also play five individuals, including junior Jack Tickle, senior Noah Hartman, freshman Kurtis Rodriguez, junior Phoomintr Kaewvichien, and sophomore Preston Cedergren.
In the last tournament at SIUE, Mathew Halvorson led the Mavericks with a total score of 222. He finished in a tie for 25th place on the individual leaderboard.
Carter Doose was second on the team in that invite with a score of 224. Josh Peters finished third with 227.
Christopher Atkinson makes his first appearance in the Mavericks line up. He finished his first invite in third place among all individual golfers, and tied for 30th overall with a score of 223.
Noah Hartman tied for 65th place at the Derek Dolenc Invitational and Phoomintr Kaewvichien tied for 81st. In the first tournament of the year at Kansas State, Kurtis Rodriguez tied for 67th, and Jack Tickle finished in 72nd place. Preston Cedergren is making his first appearance of the season as an individual golfer.
The women's line up: freshman Sydney Taake, junior Mandi Granato, sophomore Mika Miyata, sophomore Jinna Boonbumrungsuk, and senior Zora Gittens. They have four individual golfers, senior Cassidy Ulrich, junior Izzi Puk, freshmen Emma Kirvan and Maddie Simon.
Sydney Taake finished with a score of 234 at the Jackrabbit Intercollegiate. She placed first on the team and tied for 25th on the individual leaderboard.
Mandi Granato placed 43rd overall in that intercollegiate with a score of 241, finishing in second on the team. Zora Gittens shot 243 for third on the team and 45th on the leaderboard, and Jinna Boonbumrungsuk tied for 52nd place with 244.
Golfing individually at the Jackrabbit Intercollegiate, Mika Miyata scored a 236 and tied for 30th place overall.
Izzi Puk finished in 60th place in the first tournament. Emma Kirvan tied for 56th, and Maddie Simon finished in a tie for 45th with a score of 243. Cassidy Ulrich is making her first appearance of the season as an individual golfer.
After this event, the men will head to their last event of the fall season at the Old Dominion Intercollegiate, October 24-26. The women stay in town for the Creighton Classic, October 11-12.
