Mavericks Wrap Up Second Meet of the Season

AIR FORCE, Colo. – The Omaha women's and men's swimming & diving teams were back in action Friday night with a meet at Air Force with Colorado School of the Mines.
 
The Maverick women fell to Air Force, 173-112, but beat Colorado School of the Mines, 143-141. The Maverick men also fell to Air Force, 179-110, but dominated Colorado School of the Mines, 203-87.
 
"I am very happy with the competitiveness and performance of both programs tonight," said head coach Todd Samland. "Air Force is a solid program with quality and depth. I felt like our programs held their own with some solid performances."
 
The Mavericks earned four first place finishes Saturday. The men recorded three, while the women netted one.
 
Kody Hollingsworth recorded the first on in the 100-back with a time of 51.41. Daniel Young tallied another in the 100-breast with a time of 56.97. Hailey Matthews finished first in the 500-free with a time of 5:20.33 for Omaha, while Young earned his second first-place finish in the 200-IM posting a time of 1:55.56.
 
Gracie Streblow, Caroline Gardner, Annika Harthoorn, and Payton Easley led a 200-medley relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 1:46.80. On the men's side, Hollingsworth, Young, Elijah Clements, and DJ Rogers placed second with a time of 1:32.91 in the 200-medley relay.
 
For the women, Matthews posted a time of 1:55.55 in the 200-free for a second-place finish, while Harthoorn finished second in the 100-back with a time of 58.85. Caroline Gardner threw her name into the mix with a second-place finish in the 100-breast with a time of 1:07.91, while Easley placed second in the 50-free recording a time of 24.61.
 
Easley then finished second in the 100-free with a time of 54.05. Olivia Theil tallied another second-place finish in the 200-back with a time of 2:11.82, while Annie Leinart recorded a second-place finishers with a time of 2:21.90 in the 200-breast. Harthoorn tallied another with a time of 59.10 in the 100-fly
 
Brandon Cheong recorded a time of 58.48 to finish second behind Young in the 100-breast for the men's lone second place finish.
 
In the diving events, Holly Bernardin placed second with a score of 207.25 in the three-meter event. Lexi Roman followed behind in third with a score of 161.45. Reece Cooper then led the Mavericks with a score of 216.30 in the one-meter event. Bernardin placed third, while Roman finished fourth.
 
Ian Blackstock earned the Mavericks a third-place finish in the one-meter event posting a score of 209.30. Wes Thompson followed in fourth with a score of 157.80. In the three-meter event, Blackstock recorded a score of 213.25 for a second place finish.
 
"It was fun watching us get some wins tonight, but it was just as exciting cheering on our second and third place finishes, too. This is a trip I always look forward to making each year because we face some tough performances and get in some awesome training."
 
The Omaha women return to action on Friday, Nov. 5 at Iowa State. Both teams will then host South Dakota State on Nov. 13 for their conference opener.
