OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha swimming & diving team returned to action for the first time in the new year, taking on Iowa State at the H&K Pool.
The Cyclones took the meet by a score of 187-79.
Omaha's divers had a strong performance in the meet. In the 3 meters,
Kady Eller finished second with a score of 229.12, leading a group of three Mavericks.
Darby Drake was fourth with a score of 219.74, and
Reece Cooper was fifth with a score of 186.89.
In the 1 meter, Drake paced the Mavericks, taking second with a score of 258.07. Eller was third at 233.55, and Cooper was fourth with a score of 222.45.
The Mavericks had a host of top-three finishes against the Cyclones.
In the 50-yard freestyle,
Morgan Baker swam a time of 25.19 to finish second.
Maddie Mather was second in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:31.92, just ahead of teammate
Carina Monroe who clocked a time of 5:32.21.
Baker also was third in the 100-yard free in a time of 55.05.
In the 50-yard butterfly,
Bethany Gatlin was second with a time of 27.97, leading a group of three Mavericks. Baker was third at 28.22, and
Riana Scott was fourth at 30.05.
In the 200 IM,
Annie Leinart finished second at 2:19.47, followed by
Abigail Mitchell at 2:22.24 and
Mallory Dickey at 2:23.18.
In the relays, the Mavericks top team of
Megan Latta,
Caroline Gardner, Dickey and
Parker Hagemann finished fourth in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:52.35.
The team of Gardner, Baker,
Jillian Altmaier and Scott was UNO's top quartet in the 400 free relay, coming in second with a time of 3:46.22.
"This was a meet between teams on two different paths," said head coach
Todd Samland. "Iowa State is in its final stages of preparation for its conference championship and our team which just returned to training with 12 weeks until the conference championships.
"We had great effort today, but we are just not ready to compete at a high level," Samland added. "A major kudo goes out to the diving program under Coach Sprague. Our divers really rose to the occasion and competed well."
The Mavericks return to H&K Pool next Saturday when they host Sioux Falls on Saturday, Jan. 23.
