KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Omaha women's golf team is in 48th place after the first round of the 53-team Kiawah Island Classic hosted by College of Charleston.
The Mavericks opened with a team score of 335 after the first 18 holes at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
College of Charleston leads the event with a score of 281. IUPUI is second at 288, and Boston University and Florida Gulf Coast are tied for third at 289.
Zora Gittens shot a seven-over round of 79 to lead the team in scoring on day one. She's tied for 140th in the massive field of 264 golfers.
Mandi Granato is second on the team and tied for 181st overall with a score of 81.
Samantha Chong is next with a score of 87, good for a tie for 242nd. That has her one stroke ahead of teammate
Hannah Hunke who shot 88 and sits in a tie for 246th.
Izzi Puk rounded out the team scoring with a round of 92.
The second round of the three-round event begins on Monday at 7:30 a.m. CT.
