FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Omaha track & field team earned two more lifetime bests on the last day of competition at the Summit League Indoor Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare on Saturday at Purdue Fort Wayne.
In the mile, freshman
Paige Blackford led a quartet of Mavericks with a lifetime best time of 5:15.95, good for 11th place. The time was a team season best.
Anita Jenkins was right behind in 12th with a time of 5:19.12 while
Renata Valquier Chavez (15/5:29.81) and
Maya Nachtigal (16/5:30.17) rounded out the Mavericks' contingent.
In the weight throw,
Cecelia Ivwionrume had UNO's top mark of 45-01, good for 19th place.
Lori Vedder set a lifetime best in the event with a throw of 41-03, good for 22nd.
Omaha finished the championships with an eighth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of
Scarlett Hill, Blackford, Jenkins and
Vanessa Gunderson ran a time of 4:06.35 in their first teaming of the season.
"We faced a lot of challenges and adversity this season, but this team fought through it," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "We now take the experience gained and move on to the outdoor season."
The Mavericks earned six points in the championship to finish eighth.
The Mavericks will open the outdoor season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21.
