FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Omaha track & field team picked up more lifetime bests in the first day of competition at the Summit League Indoor Championships on Friday at Purdue Fort Wayne.
"We had some good things happen today, and some things that could have gone better," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "Regardless of the outcome, the support that they have shown each other has been tremendous.
"The conference championships are about team, and they're showing that."
The championships began with the multi-events. In the pentathlon, junior
Jaycee Schettler set a lifetime best with a score of 3,048 points to finish 10th.
Schettler set an individual event lifetime best time of 9.45 in the 60 meter hurdles and another in the 800 meters, running a time of 2:35.07.
In the 60 meters,
Brekk Flax ran Omaha's top time of 7.87 while
Scarlett Hill had a lifetime best time of 7.90, and
Carrie Simonson just missed tying her lifetime best, clocking in at 7.95. The three did not qualify for Saturday's final.
Simonson ran a time of 25.70 in the 200 meters but just missed qualifying for the finals in her first Summit Championship.
In the distance medley relay, the team of
Maya Nachtigal, Hill,
Paige Blackford and
Anita Jenkins took fourth in a time of 12:29.52, a season best by more than 26 seconds and good for fourth place.
The Mavericks currently sit in sixth place with five points. The final day of competition begins at 8:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.
