JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – The Omaha men's golf team opened the spring in mid-season form, seizing the lead after two rounds at The Joust at Goose Creek hosted by California Baptist.
The Mavericks opened with a team round of one-under 279 and came back in round two with a score of 285 to sit at 564 for the 54-hole event. They currently have a seven-stroke lead over Seattle and Cal Poly which are tied in second at 571.
Senior
Witchayapat Sinsrang sits in a tie with Idaho's Joseph Glenn for first overall with matching scores of 136. Sinsrang carded a five-under score of 65 on the par-70 course in round one. He posted a card of one-over 71 in round two, highlighted by a chip in for an eagle on the par-five seventh hole.
Freshman
Josh Peters is second on the team and tied for sixth overall in the field of 85 golfers with an even-par total of 140. He shot a two-over round of 72 to open the tournament and came back with a two-under score of 68.
Senior
Nick Kagy is tied for 12th. He posted an even-round score of 70 in round one and shot a 72 in round two for a total of 142.
Freshman
Josh Bartels is fourth on the team with a score of 149 that included rounds of 72 and 77.
Freshman
Phoomintr Kaewvichien rounded out the team scoring with a total of 163. He shot 89 in round one and improved by 15 strokes to shoot 74 in round two.
The final round begins at 10 a.m. CT from Goose Creek Golf Club.
