OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team got a top-10 time from senior
Brekk Flax to highlight competition at the Nebraska Tune-Up, the Mavericks' last meet before the Summit League Championship.
Flax ran a 60-meter time of 7.77, a lifetime best, and the eighth-fastest time in the event in school history. She finished third in the race.
"There were some great performances today," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "Brekk has been gunning for the top-10 list for a few weeks now so I was very proud of her for getting it.
"We now have to continue this momentum into next week and compete to be best of our ability at the Summit Championships."
Omaha's sprinters had a strong showing in the meet. Freshman
Carrie Simonson finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.34, her fifth straight lifetime best in the event and just .02 from cracking the top-10 list.
Scarlett Hill also had a lifetime best, running a time of 26.10 to finish 11th, and freshman
Tristian Kinsey ran a lifetime best time of 27.96.
UNO's sprinters didn't have a monopoly on lifetime bests. In the 3,000 meters, sophomore
Heidi Hall finished eighth with a time of 10:34.29. Senior
Ivanna Uribe was right behind in 10th, and her time of 10:42.87 was a lifetime best. Freshman
Maya Nachtigal also posted a lifetime best with a time of 10:59.32, good for 14th place.
In the mile, senior
Anita Jenkins put up a season-best time of 5:16.81 to finish 10th. It was a little more than two seconds from her lifetime best.
Renata Valquier Chavez also put up a season best, running a time of 5:25.65 to finish 13th.
The Summit Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
