OMAHA, Neb. – Former men's soccer player
Elvir Ibisevic signed a contract with USL League One's Union Omaha, the club announced Friday.
Ibisevic inked a three-year deal with NK Celje in the Slovenian Prva Liga in July 2018. He appeared in 22 matches with the club before signing with BSG Chemie Leipzig for the 2019 season.
"First off, I want to thank coach Mims for giving me this chance to return to Omaha,' said Ibisevic. "When the opportunity came up, it was hard to say no. I'm excited to be back in the city where I've had a lot of success."
Ibisevic appeared in 36 matches, including 33 starts in his two years with the Mavericks while totaling 30 points with 13 goals and four assists.
The Johnston, Iowa, native led Omaha with nine goals and 19 points in 2017, tying for the Summit League lead in goals. As a sophomore, he was a first team All-Summit selection, Summit League's Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions, NCAA National Player of the Week and United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Second Team honoree.
"A few years ago with Omaha, we were the first team in school history to win the conference championship and make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament," added Ibisevic. "I'm looking forward to an amazing season with Union Omaha and am ready to give my all for this club."
Ibisevic scored the first hat trick in program history against Virginia Tech on Aug. 27, 2017 and finished the game with a school record for goals and points (9) in a game. His hat trick was the second-fastest to start a game in NCAA history. He left the program tied for second all-time with six game-winning goals, tied for third with 13 goals and fifth with 30 career points.
Ibisevic was called up to the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team for a friendly match against Team USA on January 28, 2018. The two teams played to a tie while he made his debut in the 83
rd minute.
