Schettler's PR Highlights First Day For Mavericks at Graduate Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. – Junior Jaycee Schettler posted a lifetime best mark in the pentathlon to highlight the first day of competition for the Omaha track & field team at the Graduate Classic at Nebraska.

"Today was a good day to see where we are after the break," said head coach Chris Richardson.  "We had a few people surprise us with their performances, and now we'll see what else we can accomplish tomorrow."

Schettler finished third in the event with 3,000 points, 132 more than her previous lifetime best.  She started off with a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles, running a time of 9.76 that had her second in the field.

She posted another PR in the next event, posting a mark of 4-09 ½ in the high jump that was an inch better than her previous best.

Schettler put up the top shot put mark in the field with a throw of 36-02 ¾ and came back with a long jump mark of 15-04.

She finished with her final best, running a time of 2:38.05 in the 800 meters.

On the track, Brekk Flax was the top qualifier in the 60 meters, running a lifetime-best tying time of 7.86.  Scarlett Hill also qualified for Saturday's finals with a time of 8.19.

Running the mile for the first time collegiately, Maya Nachtigal posted a time of 5:34.32 to finish seventh in the field.

In the 1,000 meters, Anita Jenkins was just shy of her personal best with a time of 3:06.06 which was good for third.  Paige Blackford came in sixth with a time of 3:09.57.

Heidi Hall finished in eighth place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:41.13.

In the field, Cecelia Ivwionrume threw a lifetime best in the weight throw with a mark of 43-03.

The meet concludes on Saturday beginning at 9:30 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
