Gomez Inks Contract with Union Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – Former Omaha men's soccer player Xavier Gomez signed a contract with USL League One's Union Omaha, the club announced Tuesday.

Gomez played last season in the USL League One with Lansing Ignite FC, appearing in 28 matches while making 27 starts and totaling three goals and five assists.

"I couldn't be happier to be able to play professional soccer in Omaha," said Gomez. "I have so much love for the city of Omaha and I can't wait to give back as much as I can to this city."

The Chicago native was selected as the 41st overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by Minnesota United, becoming the second the Maverick in program history to be chosen in the MLS SuperDraft.

Gomez reunites with Union Omaha head coach Jason Mims after playing four seasons for Mims with the Mavericks. In his four years at Omaha, Gomez recorded eight goals and 11 assists in 68 appearances while leading Omaha to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017 as a First Team All-Summit selection.
