OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis program capped off its weekend play at the Creighton Bluejay Invite.
"This was a good weekend for us," said director of tennis
Adam Summitt. "We made some good strides since last time out and every player was better. I felt we competed better and had more energy. I'm happy with the progress, but we can be better in some areas. I'm looking forward to getting back to work."
Lillian Tiemeyer captured the Flight C Singles Consolation championship with two wins over Doane's Brylee Lauby and South Dakota's Nanette Nylund. The Flight D singles saw
Marie Kapelevich advance in the winner's bracket to the semifinals after she defeated South Dakota's Agustina Diaz 6-4, 6-3. Kapelevich went on to earn third-place honors in the flight with a 6-3, 4-4 (retired due to injury) win over Creighton's King.
Clare Crockett advanced to the championship match of the Women's Flight F Singles with wins over Doane's Huong Ngo (6-2, 6-3) and Gustavus' Rachel Linrud (6-3, 6-4). She went on to fall to Creighton's Kendra Lavallee (6-3, 6-4) in the final.
Justine Linscott picked up the third place honor with a win over Linrud (6-3, 4-6, 10-5) in the consolation match.
For doubles action, the team of Kapelevich and Lincscott highlighted the Maverick performances with an appearance in the Flight C Championship match. The duo earned a 6-1 win over North Dakota, followed by a 6-3 win over Creighton's Lavallee and Higueras. The team eventually fell 7-5 to the team of Aguirre and King of Creighton.
