Mavericks Take 11th in Season Opener

MADISON, Ill. – The Omaha men's golf team began the fall season with an 11th-place finish at the Derek Dolenc Invitational hosted by SIUE.

The Mavericks closed the 54-hole tournament with a round of 300 to finish at 887 at the Gateway National Golf Links.  UT Martin won the event with an even-par team score of 852.  Tennessee Tech was second at 858, and Belmont took third at 868.

Witchayapat Sinsrang led the Mavericks with a score of 215 that included a final round of 71, even par.  He finished two over for the tournament and tied for 13th place in the field of 99 golfers.

Freshman Josh Bartels was second on the team and tied for 29th with a six-over total of 219.  He posted his third straight round of 73 on Tuesday.

Nick Kagy tied for 41st overall with a score of 223 that featured a final round tally of 77.

Freshman Josh Peters was fourth on the team and tied for 76th overall after shooting 81 in the final round for a total of 232.  Phoomintr Kaewvichien completed the team scoring for the Mavericks with a final score of 239 including a final round of 79.

Parker Waters, playing as an individual, closed the tournament with a final score of 252.

The Mavericks are closer to home next week, playing in the Zach Johnson Invitational at Drake on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
