MADISON, Ill. – The Omaha men's golf team is in ninth place after the first 36 holes of the Derek Dolenc Invitational at SIUE on Monday.
The Mavericks shot team scores of 296 and 291 to put them at 587 in the 54-hole tournament at the Gateway National Golf Links. UT Martin leads the 18-team tournament with a score of 563, three clear of Tennessee Tech in second. Belmont is third at 577.
Witchayapat Sinsrang leads the Mavericks in scoring and sits in a tie for 22nd in the field of 99 players with a score of 144. He shot a one-under round of 70 to open and finished the day with a three-over card of 74.
Freshman
Josh Bartels, in his first collegiate tournament, and
Nick Kagy are tied for second on the team and in a tie for 28th overall with matching scores of 146. Bartels shot matching two-over rounds of 73 while Kagy fired a 75 to open and came back with an even-par score of 71.
Freshman
Josh Peters, also playing his first tournament, is tied for 59th with a score of 151 that featured rounds of 78 and 73. Fellow freshman
Phoomintr Kaewvichien, also in his first collegiate tournament, shot matching rounds of 80 to put him at 160, good for a tie for 94th.
Parker Waters, playing as an individual, posted a two-round total of 172.
The final round begins Tuesday at 8:15 a.m.
