DES MOINES, Iowa – The Omaha men's tennis team concluded its opening tournament of the fall season at the Drake Invite this weekend.
In doubles action,
Nathan Reekie and
Matt Hulme teamed up to capture the championship in Flight B after recording wins over Creighton (6-1), Washington University in St. Louis (6-4 and 6-4).
Abdoul Ouattara and
Davis Lawley picked up a 6-4 win in the consolation of Flight A while
Ethan Henry and
Hugo Piles Ballester notched a 6-3 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in Flight C.
In singles action, play was cancelled on Sunday due to rain.
In Flight A, Ouattara tallied victories over Gustavus Adolphus College's Yassine Derbani and North Dakota's Andrea Petrovic while Reekie defeated Drake's Reid Jarvis and Northwest Missouri State's Franco Olive due to injury.
Hulme won over Drake's Freddie Powell and Piles Ballester posted a victory over Wichita State's Zach Grueber in consolation action in Flight B.
Lawley garnered a pair of victories in Flight C over North Dakota's Jake Kuhlman and Gustavus Adolphus's Daniel Foucheir, and Henry recorded a victorious decision over Gustavus Adolphus's Drew Elofson in Flight D.
The Mavericks continue fall action next weekend at the Creighton Invite on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 27-29.
