Omaha Falters Against Grand Canyon, 3-2

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Omaha volleyball dropped its final match of the GCU Invite to host Grand Canyon Saturday evening, 3-2. 

For the fourth-straight time, Omaha saw itself in a five-set match this season. The Mavericks fell (20-25, 26-24, 25-13, 25-27, 9-15). 

NOTES 
•    Anna Blaschko posted a career-high of 19 kills against GCU. 
•    Omaha falls to 0-4 all-time against Grand Canyon. 
•    The Mavericks have played in four-straight five-set matches this year, and six total for 2019. In those matches, Omaha is 2-4 overall. 
•    Omaha finishes the Grand Canyon Invite with a 1-2 weekend record. 

INSIDE SET ONE 
Sadie Limback helped put the Mavericks ahead early, 10-9, after her kill, but the Lopes bounced back and were able to tie the score up at 15-all. After the opening set, Omaha fell into a 1-0 hole in the match with GCU's 25-20 victory. 

INSIDE SET TWO 
The Mavericks bounced back and led 9-7 early on over Grand Canyon. The lead increased to 15-10 after a Blaschko kill that forced a GCU timeout. The Lopes, however, went on a run and were able to tie the score up at 17-all. Omaha was able to even the score up at 1-1 with a 26-24 victory over the Lopes. 

INSIDE SET THREE 
Omaha sparked a 6-0 run that proved to be the momentum boost it needed for the set. A massive run gave the Mavericks a 15-4 lead later on in the frame. It proved to be enough as the Mavericks took a 2-1 match lead with the 25-13 third-set victory. 

INSIDE SET FOUR 
A heart-breaking fourth set went to Grand Canyon, 27-25. Up 24-20 in the set, Omaha squandered away the late lead after the Lopes rattled off a 6-1 run and took the fourth set in a nail-biter. With the fourth-set loss, Omaha found itself in its fourth-consecutive five-set match. 

INSIDE SET FIVE 
Grand Canyon jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the final frame and did not look back. Omaha fell into a 12-6 hole before calling timeout in the set. Despite two-straight points, Omaha could not close the gap as the Lopes won 15-9 in the final set and took the match, 3-2. 

UP NEXT
