TULSA, Okla. – The third-seeded Omaha women's team saw its season come to a close with a 5-0 defeat to the No. 1-seeded Denver Pioneers Saturday morning in The Summit League Championship Final.
"We didn't get the result that we wanted as the goal is always to win a conference championship," said head coach
Adam Summitt. "I thought we played very well in the first set of singles. We had a lot of opportunities, but Denver just played better in those situations. I'm proud of this team. We were able to come together and make history. This makes me look forward to next season already."
The Pioneers picked up the doubles point at No. 1 and No. 2. The team of
Natalie Lorentz and
Marie Kapelevich at No. 1, along with
Janelle Wilson and
Savanna Crowell at No. 2, fell 6-1 on both courts.
In singles, Denver picked up its second point as Arisha Ladhani defeated
Emily Behling at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0). The lead increased to 3-0 Denver when Tatum Burger picked up a win over Lorentz (6-2, 6-1). Both courts two and six clinched the match point at the same time for the 5-0 win.
Denver's Anna Riedmiller topped Wilson (6-3, 6-2) at No. 2, while Crowell fell at No. 6 to the Pioneers' Hada Chang (6-0, 6-2). Absisan's match at No. 1 was left unfinished at 6-3, 3-2.
The Mavericks cap off the 2019 slate with Lorentz and Wilson earning All-Summit honors, while the team advanced to the title match for the first time in program history.
