AZUSA, Calif. – The Omaha men's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 11 Azusa Pacific to start its Spring Break trip on Tuesday.
With the loss, the Mavericks are now 7-9 overall, while the Cougars improved to 14-1.
Omaha and Azusa Pacific split the first two doubles matches. The Cougars claimed a 6-4 decision at No. 2 doubles.
Hugo Piles Ballester and
Ethan Henry leveled the match at 1-1 with a 6-4 win at No. 3. The home side clinched the point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
The Cougars rode the momentum from doubles into singles.
Abdoul Ouattara lost a 6-4, 6-3 match at No. 1 to Jakob Schnaitter. Piles Ballester claimed a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 4 to give Omaha its only singles win. APU's Ronald King topped
Davis Lawley in the longest match of the day 4-6, 6-3, 17-15.
