SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha swimming and diving program capped off the opening day of The Summit League Championships with a school record and several performances that medaled.

In the final relay of the evening, the quartet of Kylie Vermeire, Anna Capoun, Rachel Morrow and Lizzy Giese finished second in the 800 freestyle relay. The swimmers also set a new event school record of 7:29.79, which broke the previous one of 7:29.93 that stood since 2015.

The 200 medley relay saw a third place finish for the Mavericks as Kirsten Kracke, Abbey Mitchell, Bethany Gatlin and Madison Ewald swam the event in 1:45.66.

All three Maverick divers placed in the top eight and made the finals in the 3-meter as Annika Clinton finished fifth (254.45), Madeline Taylor placed sixth (245.55) and Jacquelyn Gaworski notched eighth (203.55). The finals for that event will be Saturday, Feb. 23, at 5 p.m.

"It was a great day today," said head coach Todd Samland. "It is very exciting to have all three divers placing in the top eight. The 200 medley relay medaled by placing with a very competitive time. The final relay for the evening placed second with an awesome new school record in the 800 free relay. I'm very proud of our team today and it is a great day to be a Maverick."

Omaha continues action tomorrow with the prelims beginning at 10 a.m. in the 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 IM, 50 free and 200 free relay. Prelims in the 1-meter dive are at 1 p.m. tomorrow, which precedes the 5 p.m. finals for those five swimming events earlier that day.
