BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The Omaha swimming & diving team hit the road Friday evening, falling 162-138 to South Dakota State at the Marshall Center Pool.
The Mavericks won six individual events and a relay and had 22 top-three finishes.
Abigail Mitchell,
Caroline Gardner,
Bethany Gatlin and
Brook Landt opened the night by winning the 200 medley relay.
Mitchell later swept the backstroke races, taking the top spot in the 100 back (59.31) and 200 back (2:08.71). Gatlin joined her with two wins of her own, sweeping the 100 fly (58.23) and 200 fly (2:09.85).
Gardner also won the 100 breast (1:06.17), and
Annie Leinart swam to a first-place finish in the 200 breast (2:22.12).
"Tonight we fell short to a very talented South Dakota State team," head coach
Todd Samland said. "We had some very strong swims in the stroke events, and although we were very competitive in the freestyle events, we came up short. This a great opportunity for us to learn to help us become more competitive."
Following a quick turnaround, the Mavericks conclude their weekend swing at Sioux Falls on Saturday, Nov. 9. Action is set for 10 a.m. at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., and a live streaming link will be available on OMavs.com.
