DENVER, Colo. – The Omaha volleyball program fell in The Summit League Championship final to No. 2 seed Denver 3-1 (21-25, 13-25, 25-22, 18-25) Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Gymnasium.

NOTES

•    The 19 wins are the most since the 2015 season (19-13) where that team also fell to Denver in the championship match.
•    The 2019 season marked just the second-ever championship appearance for the program since joining The Summit League.
•    Matt Buttermore finishes 2-1 in Summit League tournament games for his debut season.
•    Sami Clarkson and Isabella Sade earned All-Tournament honors.
•    Sade finished just two kills shy of 1,000 for her career. She tallied 12 against Denver.
•    Sadie Limback finished with 19-straight double-digit kill matches after a 16-kill performance.
•    Anna Blaschko finished with 13 kills while Clarkson tallied her 11th double-double of the season with 41 assists and 12 digs.

INSIDE SET ONE
A close opening set fell in favor of the Pioneers, 25-21. Omaha had the early momentum and went up 2-0 after a Clarkson ace. The lead increased to 5-2, but Denver rallied and evened the score up at 8-all. The Pioneers went up 19-13 and forced the Mavericks to use a timeout later in the frame. The Mavericks, however, refused to back down and pulled to within 21-19, but Denver was able to hold on for a four-point win.

INSIDE SET TWO
The Pioneers jumped out ahead in the second set, 11-6, on a 6-0 run. The Maverick deficit eventually increased to 14-7 midway through the set. The Denver lead went to double-digits after a kill made it 19-9. Omaha cut it to eight later in the set, but the Pioneers were able to close it out with a 12-point win, 25-13.

INSIDE SET THREE
Despite falling in a 5-1 hole, Omaha rallied back and eventually tied the score after a Clarkson kill. The ensuing play resulted in a kill by Limback for the first Maverick lead of the set. Omaha later led 19-16 and forced a Pioneer timeout with a kill by Blaschko and a DU attack error. Denver, however, evened things up at 19-all on a three-point spurt. The Mavericks secured the set on a pair of points with an Alexa Blase kill and a Pioneer error.

INSIDE SET FOUR
Despite a valiant effort, Omaha fell to the Pioneers 25-18. A hot Denver start plagued the Mavericks as the team fell in an 8-4 deficit, which forced a timeout. Omaha used another timeout after Denver extended the score to 15-6. The Mavericks eventually cut it to five (20-15) and made the Pioneers burn a timeout on back-to-back Claire Leonard kills. Omaha continued its run out of the break and scored two more that made it 21-18 Pioneers. Denver, however, secured the next four points for the championship victory.
