HOUSTON, Texas – Freshman
Kady Eller became the first Maverick diver in the Division I era to reach the semifinals at a large fall invite on Friday afternoon at the Phill Hansel Invitational in Houston, Texas.
Eller totaled a score of 219.10 to finish 19
th in the preliminary round and advance to the semifinals.
"Today was a great accomplishment for our program," said assistant coach
Eric Sprague. "Kady's accomplishment is something we've been working towards for the last few years as we continue to progress as a program."
Reece Cooper placed 39
th with a score of 175.65 while
Natalie Wright posted a total of 163.40 to finish in 40
th-place.
"Reece and Natalie dove well and had just a couple little things that prevented them from finishing higher," added Sprague. "Going forward, the young ladies should feel confident with this experience and their ability to perform in this environment. We have a key stretch of training in the next few weeks where these girls will start performing some new and more difficult dives. After what I saw this weekend, I know these girls will be up to the challenge."
In the semifinal round, Eller scored a 216.05 to earn an 11
th-place finish.
The Mavericks are back in action in a Summit League contest vs. South Dakota on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. at H&K Pool.
