Mavericks Battle Top-Seeded Western Illinois

OMAHA, Neb. – The fourth-seeded Omaha men's soccer team takes on top-seeded Western Illinois in the semifinals of the Summit League Men's Soccer Championship presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. CT in Denver, Colo.

Battle for the Summit
The tournament features a four-team single-elimination format beginning with the semifinal round on Thursday, Nov. 14. The championship is slated for Nov. 16 with the tournament champion earning the league's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.

  • The Mavericks completed their second regular season under head coach Bob Warming with a 3-8-4 overall record and 2-2-1 mark against Summit League opponents.

Scouting the Western Illinois Leathernecks
The Western Illinois Leathernecks wrapped up the regular season with a 5-12-1 overall record and 4-1-0 mark in Summit League contests.
 
The Leathernecks have scored 23 goals in 18 matches this season. The Western Illinois offense is taking 10.5 shots per match with 42.3 percent of those on target. Nine different players have scored goals for the Leathernecks this season.
 
The Western Illinois defense has given up 37 goals while tallying two shutouts. Opponents are shooting 16 shots per match, including 45.1 percent of those on goal. Goalkeeper Tim Trilk is 5-11-1 on the season with 83 saves, a .709 save percentage and 2.02 goals-against average.
 
Leathernecks to Watch
No. 24 Ryan DeBois – leads WIU with 16 points and eight goals in 13 appearances.
No. 4 Daisuke Otsuka – second on the team with eight points and four goals.
No. 5 Paul Kirdorf – totaled six points with a pair of goals and assists in 16 starts.
 
Omaha vs. Western Illinois
Omaha leads the all-time series with Western Illinois, 6-2-1. The Mavericks won 3-1 over the Leathernecks on Oct. in Omaha earlier this season.
