Swimming and Diving Routs Leathernecks

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha swimming and diving team notched a dominant 199-64 victory over Summit League foe Western Illinois at the H&K Pool on Friday night.
 
The Mavericks totaled 13 individual winners and won both relays while the Leathernecks recorded one event winner.
 
"I was very pleased with the readiness of our team tonight," said head coach Todd Samland. "The women were focused on putting up some good swims in some events they haven't competed in yet this season. We keep moving in the right direction and have a group of athletes who are willing to learn from their racing experiences."
 
The 400-yard medley relay made up of Megan Latta, Caroline Gardner, Rebecca Martini and Abigail Mitchell clocked a time of 4:01.01 to record the victory.
 
Bethany Gatlin, Gardner, Brook Landt and Rachel Morrow teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a finish of 1:40.42.
 
Maddie Mather was one of four Mavericks to claim a pair of individual victories with times of 18:22.83 and 4:44.92 in the 1650-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley, respectively.
 
Morrow clocked a 1:57.94 in the 200-yard freestyle and 5:19.89 in the 500-yard freestyle to capture the event victories while Gatlin won her events in the 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle with finishes of 2:12.25 and 54.91, respectively.
 
Kady Eller scored 218.92 points in the one-meter dive and 214.41 points in the three-meter dive to post the victories sweep in the dives.
 
Landt completed the 50-yard free in 25.55 seconds to capture the event title while Alyssa Parsons was crowned the winner of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.98.
 
Abigail Mitchell came away victorious with a time of 59.60 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke while Lauryn Schieffer clocked a time of 2:17.31 in the 200-yard backstroke and Annie Leinart finished the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:25.66 to earn the wins in their events.
 
The Mavericks continue action next weekend at Summit League foe South Dakota State on Friday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. in Brookings, S.D.
