TULSA, Okla. – Junior
Matt Hulme tallied a 4-1 singles record and advanced to the qualifying round at the ITA All-American Championships last weekend in Tulsa, Okla.
Hulme becomes the second Maverick in program history to reach the qualifying draw and his four victories are the most for a Maverick at the ITA All-American Championships.
"I have always heard this is a great tournament to compete in and I'm glad we got the chance to bring some of the guys here," said director of tennis
Adam Summitt. "We got a good look at some of the best players in the country and got to compete with them."
"Hulme had an incredible run with winning four matches all against very talented players," added Summitt. "I think Matt and everyone else can compete with some of the best players in the county if we clean up a few things and mentally stay focused. I am excited to keep working with them and building this program up.
Hulme recorded victories over Memphis's Jeremy Taylor (6-3, 6-4) and Santa Clara's Jesus Barajas (6-4, 7-6(2)) before edging UTSA's Juri Reckow (6-4, 6-4) and Pacific's Philip Hjorth (7-6(3), 3-6, 7-5) to conclude pre-qualifying action.
The Brisbane, Australia, native fell in the opening round of the qualifying draw to Indiana's Carson Haskins (7-6(5), 3-6, 7-5).

Davis Lawley,
Abdoul Ouattara and
Hugo Piles Ballester also competed in singles action, falling in their respective opening pre-qualifying round matches.
All consolation matches were cancelled due to rain.
Hulme and Reekie dropped their opening round in qualifying doubles vs. North Carolina (2-6, 3-6) while Outtara and Lawley fell against Duke in their opening match of qualifying doubles play (2-6, 1-6).
The Mavericks continue their fall slate at the ITA Regionals in Norman, Okla. on Oct. 23-27.
