ERIE, Colo. – Senior
Witchayapat Sinsrang tied a school record for lowest 54-hole score, and his Omaha men's golf teammates followed his example in a record-setting day at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.
The Mavericks closed the three-round tournament with a score of 282, giving them a 54-hole score of 848, the lowest team total in school history. The score beat the old mark by six strokes and had the Mavericks at 16 under par. UNO finished in a tie with Utah State in the 12-team tournament at the Colorado National Golf Club.
The host Buffaloes won the tournament with a total of 829. Grand Canyon was second at 839, and Wyoming took third at 844.
Sinsrang tied
Kevin Gordon's school record with a 54-hole total score of 206 by closing the tournament with a one-over round of 73. He tied for fifth in the 72-player event.
Nick Kagy had UNO's lowest round of the day, shooting a four-under par score of 68 to finish with a total of 212, good for 19th. He was three strokes ahead of teammate
Phoomintr Kaewvichien who shot 69 on Tuesday for a total of 215. He tied for 26th.
Josh Peters closed with his second straight even par round (72), putting him at 217 for the event. He tied for 37th.
Josh Bartels had 73 in round three to finish at 222, good for 55th place.
All five Mavericks shot career best 54-hole scores over the two-day event.
Omaha returns to action at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at Arkansas State on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 14-15.
