NORMAN, Okla. – The Omaha women's tennis program concluded its final fall tournament of the year with the ITA Central Regionals.
"This is always a good, challenging tournament to end the fall on," said Director of Tennis
Adam Summitt. "I felt we competed better than in years past, especially against some stronger teams."
The Mavericks saw a trio of wins in the qualifying singles.
Madison Gallegos tallied a win over Arkansas State's Allison Quammen (6-1, 7-6 (1), followed by a pair of wins from
Lillian Tiemeyer. The freshman earned a win over Minnesota's Lucie De Santa Ana (6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (7)), and a victory over SIU-Edwardsville's Nicole Gomez (6-2, 6-2).
Natalie Lorentz also earned a consolation round victory over Myrna Olaya of Arkansas (6-3, 6-2).
In the main draw, Tiemeyer eventually fell 6-2, 6-0 to Marta Oliveira of Missouri, while
Ines Absisan fell 6-2, 6-1 to ORU's Ivana Babic.
For the main draw doubles, Absisan and
Emily Behling fell 8-2 against the team of Ribes and Ngounoue of Kansas. The team of Gallegos and Tiemeyer eventually fell to Keller and Rijkers of Arkansas, 8-6. For the qualifying doubles, the duo of Lorentz and Crowell fell 8-3 to USD.
"I think everyone is close to taking another step in their game," said Summitt. "For the next two months, we just need to continue our development and get ready for the spring season."
